An Imaginary Line From CSN to Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan & Sara Watkins

I awoke this morning with a throbbing left foot. I wore the black boots last night and my toes unconsciously tapped throughout the seventy-five minute set and the well deserved encore that was delivered by three talented singers, songwriters, and instrumentalists. On a beautiful summer night in the Spanish Courtyard of the Rosen House, located on the lush grounds of the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts which is a mere sixty minutes north of Manhattan, I kept my eyes closed for much of time to shut out the visual and allow just the sounds of nature melded with the music to pour over the tip of my head and fill my body and soul. The only distraction to my thoughts and immersion were the whoops and cheers that punctuated the close of each song.

Rockin' the Recovery benefit for Wimberley flood victims at Old Glory Ranch

Old Glory Ranch, in conjunction with My Neighbors Keepers (MYNK), will be hosting a benefit concert, Rockin' the Recovery, on Saturday, June 20th where all proceeds will go to benefit Wimberley flood victims. It will be a full afternoon and evening of live music, great food with area musicians and food vendors donating their talents for everyone's enjoyment and to aid those affected by the Memorial Weekend flood. Headlining the event is Wimberley's own Sarah Jarosz.

I remember Sarah performing on the Old Glory Ranch stage when she was 10 years old. She is an amazing young woman and a very gifted musician. We couldn’t be more thrilled that she is coming back to Old Glory to perform for this benefit. We know Wimberley has been in her heart during this very difficult time and it will be wonderful to welcome her home to contribute in such a beautiful way to help the people of this community. Who knows, maybe she will be inspired to write a song about the strength and resilience of her hometown friends and neighbors.
— Suzanne McCord, owner of Old Glory Ranch

Other groups in the lineup include Shake Russell, Kim Miller, Jill Jones & 3 Hands High, Broken Glass, Heather Wiley, Michael Shane Borden, The Rust Tones, and T-Bone & the Blues Tones. Performances on multiple stages and food trucks will be on site with delicious offerings as well as beverages (no outside food or beverages please).

All proceeds will go directly to My Neighbors Keepers, a 501(c)3 non profit offering immediate, short-term financial assistance to residents of the Wimberley Valley affected by natural disasters, such as flooding or fire.

Tickets are available online at three different levels, $75 per person for VIP Reserved Main Stage [limited number available], $25 per person for Main Stage Open Seating [limited number available but guaranteed a seat], and $15 per person General Admission.

Mark Radcliffe brings you more live music from the CCA in Glasgow for Celtic Connections 2015. Scotland's premier music winter festival celebrates its 22nd year with over 2,000 artists playing from traditional and roots music, world, indie, jazz, folk, soul and Americana. Tonight's line-up includes Americana artists Allison Moorer and Sarah Jarosz, plus gospel group The McCrary Sisters performing live.

Paste's 25 Great Musicians Under 25

buildmeupfrombones.jpg
At 23, Sarah Jarosz already has three full albums of increasingly experimental folk and bluegrass music under her belt. Displaying a virtuoso mastery of just about anything with strings from a young age, it was clear that she would be a prodigy, taken under the wing of bluegrass luminaries such as Tim O’Brien and Darrell Scott as the herald of a new generation. However, like so many other prodigies, she seems unwilling to limit herself to an old-time genre or even the progressive realm of “newgrass.” Rather, in the mold of Nickel Creek’s Chris Thile, she continues to expand her boundaries on records like 2013’s Build Me Up From Bones, journeying toward some sort of platonic ideal that combines elements of old-time folk music, bluegrass, pop and art rock into a distinctly American whole. It’s hard to imagine what kind of music Jarosz might be producing in 10 years time, but we simply hope we’ll be intellectual enough to appreciate it.

A Note From Sarah

It’s hard to believe that 2014 is coming to a close! I’m excited to wrap up the year recording on Michael Daves’ new Twin Albums Project which will also feature Noam Pikelny, Brittany Haas, and Mike Bub. Be on the lookout for that in the Spring of next year.

The first part of 2015 will be spent writing songs and preparing for my next CD. I’ll be doing some solo shows on my own and opening for The Punch Brothers in London, as well as a handful of performances with some special guests. In addition to all that, I’m embarking on the newly announced I’m With Her Tour featuring myself, Sara Watkins, and Aoife O’Donovan. I’m so thrilled to make music with these two ladies in the coming year! I’ll be doing a lot of teaching next summer, starting with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project Global Musician Workshop in June, followed by the RockyGrass Academy and Festival in July. Can’t wait to return to some of my favorite places and discover some new ones along the way.

Thank you so much for supporting my music throughout the year. I wish you and your family and friends all the best during the holiday season.

Just Announced: RockyGrass

So stoked to say that Sara Watkins, Aoife O’Donovan, and I will be taking the I’m With Her Tour to RockyGrass next summer! And to top it all off, I’ll be teaching songwriting and vocals at the RockyGrass Academy the week preceding the festival! Can’t wait to see all my Colorado pals again!
